LED Runway Rental — Seton Hall University, South Orange NJ
400 South Orange Ave, South Orange, NJ 07079 — April 20, 2016
The challenge: A fashion show run by the campus ALPFA chapter, staged in a university atrium — a hard room to stage in. There is no back of house, no rig to hang anything from, and the audience sits close on both sides at floor level, so anything we brought had to look finished from every angle and read clearly to people sitting three feet from it. Doors were at 7:00pm, which meant building the runway earlier the same day in a space the university was still using.
What we delivered: A 6ft x 30ft LED runway laid straight down the middle of the atrium floor. At 8 inches high it is a single easy step up rather than something models need stairs for, and lit white it gave the walk a clean bright line down the center of a room that is otherwise all pale stone and hard flat surfaces.
It was not only a runway: between segments the university dance team performed on it, which is the argument for a lit platform over a carpet or a riser. It reads as a runway when someone is walking it and as a stage when someone is performing on it, without anything being changed over between the two.
The panels are the same 2ft x 2ft units we build dance floors and stages from, so the same inventory that makes a 40ft x 40ft ballroom floor makes a narrow 30-foot walk when it is laid end to end instead of squared off.
